I think this one exposes the concept of “blended family” as more of an ideal than a reality. In real life the term is oftentimes euphemistic and has more to do with how the parents would like to present their family to others (as the smiling mom is trying to do here). In reality, these mergers can be messy, with some children not faring as well as others.
